| The third edition of Biz Bridge by the Confederation of Indian Industry Eastern Region was concluded on 12th November 2011 amidst accolades from exhibitors and visitors. CII has partnered with the government of West Bengal to organize the largest engineering and manufacturing exhibition and conference of the Eastern India. “Biz Bridge is the largest B2B international Engineering and Manufacturing Exhibition and conference in Eastern India.”, said Mr Sandipan Chakravortty, Chairman, Task Force on Trade Fairs, CII Eastern Region,” It has been building bridges between suppliers and customers, new technologies with old technologies, public sectors with private sectors, ground technology with students of technology.” For four days of the manufacturing and engineering expo, the Science City ground was abuzz with more than 80 exhibitors and over 8,500 national and international business visitors including CEOs and MDs of renowned business houses, ministers, top government officials, diplomats of various countries, buyers and representatives from peer companies. The value of business accomplished was over INR 29 million. "CII Eastern region has taken an initiative to project potential and opportunities in Eastern India to the rest of the world in several verticals and sectors like infrastructure, manufacturing, engineering, tourism, information technology, banking and finance, MSMEs and others. Biz Bridge 2011 is a culmination of all these efforts and it is a one stop shop forum to showcase the potential, prospects and opportunities in Eastern India", stated Dr Saugat Mukherjee, Regional Director, CII Eastern Region. Since its inception in 2008, Biz Bridge has undergone remarkable expansion and achieved its current proportions. The four day event opened up huge business opportunities for the exhibitors. Rough calculation suggests that business concluded on the fairground was over INR 29 million. The figure multiplies if one considers the future deals that initiated at the event. The expo further paved the way for a number of joint ventures between business houses and helped to establish linkage between the large companies, PSUs and the MSMEs. Mr Ranaveer Sinha, Chairman, CII Eastern Region affirmed that Biz Bridge 2011 has been a great success in accomplishing its objective of enhancing the interaction between the various stakeholders of the engineering and manufacturing industry to expand the businesses and form new partnerships. “Biz Bridge 2011 provides an opportunity for the engineering and manufacturing sectors to know and benefit from each other.”, said RADM (Retd) Anil Kr Verma, GRSE LTd. “It is required that the industries of the eastern region are given a fillip and CII has taken the initiative in the right direction”, said Shri A K Ghosh, Chairman and MD, Mecon Ltd. “The industry of Bengal was very rich and I hope this type of events would help to revive the industries once again”, he added. The four days of BizBridge 2011 was accompanied by international conferences where the who’s who of the engineering and manufacturing industry and policy makers deliberated on the issues pressing the development of industries in the eastern region. Shri Partha Chatterjee, Hon’ble Minister of Commerce & Industry, Government of West Bengal, mentioned in his inaugural address, “I am happy to know that the conferences that is being organized parallel to the exhibition is focusing on the sectors that are important to the Eastern Region and particularly to West Bengal – Power & Energy, MSMEs, Oil & Gas, and Minerals & Metals.” Dr Manas Ranjan Bhunia, Hon’ble Minister – in – charge, Departments of Irrigation & Waterways, MSME and Textiles, Government of West Bengal mentioned that, ”CII with its past track record has been maintaining a pro-active role in industrialization and formation of platforms like Biz Bridge for acceleration and augmentation of industrial process, both in small and large sectors, especially MSMEs nationally.” Over the years, BizBridge has emerged as the preferred launch pad for new products of the manufacturing companies. The third edition was no exception! Over 12 new products were unveiled at the event. Some pioneering products in green energy like Neogi Brand Equipment for Waste Plastic to Fuel by Moonlight Engineering Co., Solatron 6SGL 40/75/100/150 batteries by Exide, Green Diesel Generator by Kirloskar got instant response in terms of sales. Dr S P Gonchaudhuri, Renewable Energy Advisor, Government of West Bengal observed that, “The exhibition at Biz Bridge, 2011, helps investment in green energy by promoting interaction between the manufacturers and the customers. The exhibitors can demonstrate their products and help the investors to know the product, their cost and prices.” According to Mr G K Pillai, Chairman and MD, HMT Machine Tools Pvt Ltd, “BizBridge is a great platform for MSMEs and large manufacturers to come, interact and understand each other’s needs. This will help increase the linkages between them.” Large number of delegates including policy makers, technical experts, diplomats and senior executives from relevant verticals actively participated in the conferences. Diplomats from USA, Germany and other countries encouraged the different Indian companies to establish business relation with the respective countries. Fritz Hollenbach, Vice President-Learning, Regal Beloit Corporation, Wisconsin USA observed that “The exhibit demonstrates Kolkata's dynamic market for manufactured products.” Dr Saugat Mukherjee encapsulated, "Biz Bridge 2011 served as a unique platform for various business to business synergies. Biz Bridge showcased sectors like Metals & Minerals, Power & Energy, MSME and Oil & Gas both in the exhibition and conferences.” ”We must thank CII Eastern Region for organizing for organizing this event where speakers from all the major gas companies like IOCL, GAIL, HPL and ONGC participated. A whole range of issues related to oil and gas were discussed. The exhibition had quite a good expanse. Mr Chrisitian Scheibe, Deputy Consul General, Consulate General of Germany opined, ”The exhibition has interesting products and the initiative shows that West Bengal is moving ahead in terms of industrial development.” Mr Ujjal Kumar Upadhyaya, Chairman and MD, Emta Group of Companies stated that, “The initiative of CII Eastern Region, Biz Bridge 2011 in association with the Government of West Bengal shall indeed provide a platform to bridge different emerging issues in the role of business and industries towards the economic growth of the state and the country as a whole.” |
